Custom Replacement Shelves for Bookcases & Cabinets
Custom Finished to Match Your Existing Furnishings
Our shelves are set up: see photo.
I thought you might like to hear the "back story." We are former New Englanders, retired to Dana Point California; had engaged a local contractor to build a wall of bookshelves and cabinets in our home. The contractor persuaded us not to have them built from scratch, because the California environmental restrictions on paint, especially interior paint, make it (he said) impossible to get a good, hard finish. So instead, he installed cabinets with bookcases from "Ultracraft" from North Carolina. What a disaster! The shelves, unbeknown to us, were made of 3/4 inch resin board, and as we later learned, were intended to hold no more than 75 pounds each. Under the weight of our book collection, as could have been predicted, many of them noticeably sagged. The contractor's response was so sad, too bad: we shouldn't have put so many books on the shelves.
That's where Lancaster Mill came in: I found you online, and began with ordering just one shelf. The rest is history.
We've replaced all of the shelves except for the single fixed shelf in each unit (you can identify the thinner ones in the photo), although we do have enough shelves to replace those as well.
Our usual carpenter won't cut them out: he says they are rabbeted in, and while he didn't know how best to do it, they could possibly be removed and replaced by an expert cabinet maker. Perhaps one of these days...
In the meantime, my husband and I are absolutely delighted with your shelving. It arrived here beautifully packed, in perfect condition.
Thank you so much!
